© Shandi-leeNo one needs to tell you that this winter is a cold one. We are setting records. Some say this could turn out to be the coldest winter of the last twenty-five years. Experts also say this will likely be one of the twenty coldest winters of the last hundred years. Maybe someone should tell that to your skin. It is normal for skin to react to colder temperatures, and with these extreme conditions, your skincare and make-up routine deserve extra attention.
Just as the clothes and shoes you use during the winter differ from those you use for warm-weather months, you should also change your skincare routine. Everyone's skin tends to be drier in the winter, so get a more intense moisturiser for colder months. Those greasy moisturisers don't just make great 50th birthday ideas - they can help skin of all ages glow beautifully, even in the midst of the harsh winter months. If you have very dry skin, you might need to apply moisturiser three times a day.
Your lips might already be reminding you to take care of them. To avoid chapped, irritated lips, always use some kind of lip balm before bed. There are many great moisturising lip balms available that will keep your lips nice and soft. Speaking of lips, lip gloss is back. In the winter, you can use a darker, richer colour such as blackberry. There are a lot of fun colours to choose from. If you need an excuse to shop for make-up, trips to the cosmetics counter make great 30th birthday ideas and are a great winter pick-me-up.
Many people dread the winter months for the dull, washed-out look that seems to accompany the cold. During winter, we all need to step it up a notch with glamour and colour. Velvety shades are as essential as a good coat. Think of rich colours such as coffee, cinnamon and chocolate. Use smoky shades for the eyes. You can pack the baby blues and pale pinks away until spring.
It may be freezing out and you may be covered in several layers, but your face will still be exposed to the sun, even on cloudy days, so don't forget your sunscreen. If you're near snow, the sun can reflect off it to create an even more intense effect, especially at high altitudes. When you are outside during the day, your lip balm should also have sunscreen.
It's bitter outside, but you can still have beautiful skin and make-up. You can still be beautiful.
