Product Review: Herbal Essences Break's Over Line

Filed in archive Beauty , Product reviews on July 24, 2006

Over a month ago I received a nice FedEx box full of the newest Herbal Essences products. As I wanted to test them thoroughly before giving my judgment, it took me some time to sort it all out (you can see on the photo that I managed to use almost half a bottle of shampoo and conditioner).

The first set I'm going to write about is the Herbal Essences Break's Over Line. Simply put - I love it!

(and here's the place for a disclaimer: I didn't get any money, chocolate or Prada-discounts to write this. The whole rave is because my hair looks great. As you could read before in the Product Reviews section, I really hate it when beauty products don't perform well, so be sure that I would have said it if B'sO sucked.)

I've always had very thick, wavy and unmanageable hair, which was also very dry and coarse to add some 'joy'. In my teenage years (and my hair being long to my waist), I could go for days and days without washing my hair, as my scalp didn't produce any significant amounts of oils. Needles to say, I had split ends enough for two heads, not one. Round my twenties, I finally got fed up with shine-less, split-ended hair and cut almost half of it away, getting a layered, more manageable look. Since then, I've been cutting it every month or so, because it was always splitting, maybe due to all the straightening and dying I was subjecting it to. It also lacked shine, so I was using shine sprays galore.

I've tried every new product that would come to the market - from the repair creams to hot oil treatments, and let me tell you that the more expensive the hair care product is, the worse you are disappointed. Only a few of the products I used were great, a majority of it being average or even below that. So I was constantly buying newer and newer products, never finishing the ones I bought before.

I'm happy to say that I've finally found a keeper with Break's Over! Before the first tryout I went to my hairdresser to cut the split-ends, to start fresh. After that, I washed my hair as I always do: shampoo, rinse, slap on some conditioner, clip the hair up, take a shower, shave my legs and armpits, gently finger-comb my hair and rinse the conditioner off. I wrap my hair in a towel and let it dry of a bit before putting on some leave in crème. I would than style it as usual: straightening iron and some rollers/clips for the soft tresses look.

Let me tell you, I could see the difference immediately: it was like my hair got a jump-start. My hair ends were perfectly in order, with no ugly frizzines. It looked slick (more than I though my thick hair was capable of), shiny and nourished. Which was, of course, a cause for an alarm, because I've had quite a few false-positives when it came to hair care products, with, say, shine spray delivering great results and turning rotten on me after a week's use.

But, after the second, third, fourth and every other wash over the last month, HE Break's Over performed the same. I'm so pleased because of this that I gave almost half of my old hair care products away. Best of all, I cant detect even one split end, which is making me feel out of this world. I think I will grow my hair longer again.

There could be only one setback in Break's Over products: they deliver a lot of scent, so gals who don't like their hair scented are out of luck. It's not sweet-coconutty kind of scent we are all so bored of, rather a pleasant fragrance, which could be detected nonetheless. I've even went to the pool and my hair was still perfumed after a thorough swim around, but I guess that's better that the awful smell of chlorine. I don't mind the scent, it actually goes well with my Poison Pure, and my hair doesn't get smelly after walking down the heavy traffic streets, or sweating in the gym.

So, as a conclusion, let me recommend, with all my heart, Herbal Essences Break's Over line to all of you darlings who have split-end nightmares, with breakable, dry hair. Even our beloved experts at Beauty Brains, with all their chemical knowledge, gave this product thumbs up.
